About Us

Welcome to The Academy of Makeup Scotland

"The Academy of Makeup is like no other school, it's a home for those who love makeup and hair styling to come together, learn and have fun. It's an art school which is proud to be different from the establishment. Our classes are practical and taught with passion and energy that is both contagious and inspiring. We wanted to create an environment that people loved and didn't want to leave, and we have. Our tutors were handpicked for their excellence and shared vision."

We offer a selection of makeup artistry and hair styling courses from our training schools based in Glasgow and Aberdeen. These fast-track training courses are perfect for those looking to become professional makeup artists and session hair stylists. The age requirement for our courses is 17+ years old, and our one-to-one masterclasses are open to all ages. You will be taught by renowned industry experts that have worked internationally with top fashion designers and celebrities. We believe what we offer at The Academy is unique; we were the first international academy, dedicated to makeup artistry and session hair styling, outside of London.

The Academy was established in late 2010 by renowned creative artist Sara Hill, Winner of the UK “Makeup Artist of the Year Award 2012” and our courses attract students from all over the world. We are the number one hair and makeup academy in Scotland.

Train with the best! Invest in your future success with us.

You will be taught by a team of experienced renowned industry experts that have worked internationally with top fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Chanel and celebrities such as Melanie C, La Roux, Kanye West, Emilie Sande, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Paolo Nutini, The Saturdays, Anne Hathaway, Clive Owen, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Alesha Dixon to name just a few, and for magazines such as Vogue, Red, Cosmopolitan, Hope St, Marie Claire, ID and Vault. Aftercare

Our famous Aftercare Programme was created to give help and support in establishing the student's new career and gaining valuable work experience in the industry. We support and mentor our students to help them develop to the highest standard of artistry. With regular work experience and assisting opportunities in the industry, plus ongoing training via seminars and masterclasses to attend, we are dedicated to the success of our graduates and continually work hard as a team to ensure that graduates receive the best opportunities possible. Aftercare is supplied in two levels: Silver and Gold. Please see here for further information.

Products we love

We use a wide range of professional high end and high street makeup products including M.A.C, Bobbi Brown, NARS, Illamasqua, Laura Mercier, Dior, Sara Hill, Armani, Becca, Charlotte Tilbury, Make-up For Ever, Sigma, Inglot, Sleek, Tarte and Hourglass. It is important for us to have a large variety of products for our students to practice with whilst training so they have a better understanding of products when building their own kit. We also make students aware of the many discounts available to make up artists, including some exclusive discounts we have with certain brands. Our Pro and Foundation course students receive our beautiful 29-piece professional brush set to keep.

Courses to suit your schedule

We run both weekday and weekend courses from our Glasgow-based studio and pop-up location in Aberdeen, allowing you to study at a time that suits your schedule. We also keep our class sizes small, guaranteeing that your time with us is as productive as possible. Already a trained makeup artist but looking to advance on a specific skill? Why not look at our One-to-One Training, which can be taken at a time that suits you, and will be completely tailored to your needs.

Accreditation

Once you successfully complete your course, you will be given a certificate. Our Foundation Course, Pro Course, and Hair Styling Course are all accredited courses, which means you can use your certificate as proof of training quality, and apply for public liability insurance. We are accredited by the British Association of Beauty Therapists and Cosmetologists (BABTAC), and also endorsed with CPD hours by Habia; a government appointed sector skills body and industry authority for hair, beauty, nails, spa therapy, barbering and African type hair for your quality assurance. Please note, the creative industry is mainly portfolio and experience based, which means you are not often asked to show any form of certificate or qualification. There are top makeup artists who are self-taught and have no form of qualification or formal training in makeup artistry.
